Yes ! It is Important. I don't want to watch some ugly snaggle toothed person sing even if they are good! Sorry, I don't think others do either. How many singers are NOT so good looking.? Not many!

I think the first few seasons of AMerican Idol were based off of looks and not on talent, because there were a couple on there I was really mad that they let go. But it seems like last season and this season they are actually starting to look for talent instead of focusing what people look like....which they should DO!!! That is exciting about Canadian Idol!

To me it would seem that American Idol is based on the whole look thing, but Ruben Studdard made it through and the guy from last year, they are not incredibly good looking and do not have a models body, soooo, I think it is ultimately based on the judges in the beginning and then the talent in the end, because America Votes!!!!(And so will Canada).

I think it depends on the judges, in American Idol, it is definatly on talent, I've never really watched Canadian Idol though. People who say its on looks are probably ugly and got turned down during auditions. If your good, you'll make it, and I imagine thats the same for canadian idol.

The whole package for a pop star is talent, popularity, and looks. No one who looks like Jabba the Hut would ever win American Idol or Canadian Idol no matter how well they sing. you have to have it all.

I don't hold a very good opinion about American Idol. I don't think that they are based on talent or popularity and looks. I think that the show is based on advertisements and corporate sponsors...and mindless drivel for the masses. Now, this doesn't mean that the people who apply for this show are untalented or whatever...its just that I think you can possibly find fame or work through other means.

Probably some of each. The Judges probably base their decisions more on talent and the public (on shows where the public votes like Idol) probably bases their decisions more on looks and popularity.

The American Idol is a package, must be good looking, must be fashionable and must know how to sing. i would never vote for someone that couldnt sing.

Its not a major factor, but it's a factor.

i think they want looks as well as some talet, but obviously if you cannot sing or have no talen but still look good then that cant count because thats nothing to do with the show if you know what i mean its about talent. Talent is what they look for but if you have the looks and the image thats just makes the whole package much better!

Imagine an ugly Cristina Aguilera?

Our 'idols' are not chosen by talent, looks, or popularity. They are chosen by having something about them that makes them rise above the rest and shine like a star. They often have larger than life personalities and are lovable. We idolize those that we want to be like.
