I wish you had said what the nature of your enquiry was, as the environment for children depends very much on whether or not they have families to look after them and if so, how well those families are able to look after them. Some children have a very grim time indeed foraging for food in the capital and living on their wits. A surprisingly large number live in institutions of various kind and their lives are very different from the happy childhood described by another person answering this question. I have twice visited a boys' home where all the inmates have been referred by the courts as being in need of care. Sadly, many of them have been abused. Those running the home are doing a marvellous job, but it is sad to see how starved these boys are of affection, missing their mothers as they do. Their staple diet is gruel of some kind or other, as the budget will stretch to little more, and it is a treat to have the occasional chicken foot (four or six of which will have to stretch between two dozen of them) or fish fritters, which are mainly batter with a hint of fish. There is also a shortage of water in the district concerned, at least part of the year, so the boys are somewhat dehydrated. Despite all this, they are loved and cared for and it is a wrench for them to leave what has been their home for so long at the age of 18.

There are many such homes -- a number of them, from what the boys told me, with a far less kind and caring atmosphere. I think that any study on children's environments should explore these places.

The environment, I know well born and raised. It depends on the wealth of your family. But for the first part the parish looks out for one another. Education is very important and taken very seriously. Just as well as cooking and cleaning and farming. The beaches are beautiful and you can catch good fish. My favorite is Red snapper and Goat and Parrot fish. I also enjoyed when the seasons change and we had a variety of fruit to eat. Bread fruit is my favorite then Pineapple. I miss those things. It's insulting to me when people put stereo types on places and never gone. The environment of course is tropical and warm. When it rains really hard some of us still go to school soaking wet and then change. We walk miles to school because we have a dedication towards education and learning about America. Most of us love sports. For instance track and field. We all wear uniforms to school and looking neat and clean is number one. We get graded for our appearance. The environment is beautiful. Of course all countries have their ups and downs but for the most part our environment is resourceful and smog free. (smile)
