Obviously I haven't stolen anything, especially when walking IN to a store. I have no idea what's going on!

Check your clothing for security tags. Some lines of clothing, such as Hollister, produce clothing with security tags sewn into the clothing. If they fail to deactivate the tag, it may set off other systems.

I used to work in retail, and we got this alot from some people. The loss prevention guy told us that a lot of times shoes have sensor tags built right into the soles, and if you buy them from a store that doesn't deactivate them, you'll walk around like that forever! As someone above said, it also could be a purse (or a wallet - tag in wallet could do it too!) Did you know that the store actually has no legal right to stop you and search your things? So just hold your head high and keep walking when that happens. It's embarrassing, yes, but evidently something you are going to have to live with, or avoid stores!

Most stores have someone monitoring the front entrance and several strategic areas of stores. The alarms are radio transmitter controlled to detect the ones that are placed on merchandise. It can be set up by nasty/ or naughty secuirty personel who are monitoring the doors to ultra detect which means any transmitting item such as cell phones, ipods, cdplayers etc will trigger the alarm. If you are young and have a constant microphone on your ear for music, you will undoubtedly trigger it easily. But hey, old people with hearing aids would too.

There is an frequency adjustment knob of sorts that are controlled by one of the stores security personel in the back, and they can set it so high that you can set the alarm off just by anything electronic, but cell phones seem to do the trick..

I occasionally trigger alarms in stores where I know everyone and I would see them watching and waiting for a response from me. I would get bewildered if I am just coming into the store. Eventually I catch on and would simply say "very funny you guys" and the staff will start laughing.

If you carry a purse have you checked in the bottom? I had the same problem and found out I had bought something that had one of those white plastic sensors on it. It was about the size of a piece of trident gum? Apparently it fell off the merchandise and stayed at the bottom of my purse till I cleaned it out!

Somebody might be messing with you. In college I knew of a situation where this guy was always hitting on these women when they studied in the library. They would slip the book sensors from other books in his books so they could lose him when they vacated the premises.

It could be a coat, wallet, purse, etc. that has a security tag that wasn't deactivated when purchased or has been re-activated (I've heard this can happen but I don't know how). Any store can deactivate them for you, so you could just keep trying items until you figure out what it is, lol.

If you are as unlucky as my sister and friends, then perhaps it is someone you live with/has been to your house. When i get a security tag that wasnt deactivated, i take it home and slip it into an item of their apparel (i.e. pocket, under the padding of the shoe, etc...)
