My mom is 58 and she went to the ER last week for an injury she had from a fall. I'm afraid that the medical bill is going to be extremely high and we can't afford to pay it. Is there any advice anyone can give me in regards to financial assistance? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

apply as soon as you get the bill. call the number it has on it for financial assistance. dont wait!!! If you wait until it goes to collections your ruin your credit. most places will work with you and work out a payment plan. There is usually a phone number on the bill to call for finacial help or payment arrangements call them. dont be affraid to ask for help.

In New Jersey, you can contact the finance department of the hospital where she was seen and ask them about assistance. My husband, last year, had to (after an er visit) and the assistance he received covered all but the Doctors portion and they were able to make a payment schedule for us concerning that.

Ask to talk to a financial person at the hospital. I know that hospitals will let the charges go once a year for people without insurance. They done that for my mom before. Call the hospital right now and tell them what the problem is. I'm sure that they'll be able to help. Good Luck!!

The hospital has a social services department. All you need to do is go and explain the situation to them and they will try hard to get you financial aid from one of the many welfare-type programs available. They want to get paid too and they know it's better for them to help you than for you to walk away leaving an unpaid bill.
