I went out to eat a few nights ago and we paid with a gift card -- the card amount was $75 and our meal was only around $40. The waitress brought back a slip to sign with a place for a tip -- identical to a credit card slip. I filled in her tip as I would have if I paid with a credit card. Do gift cards work that way? I didn't stiff the waitress did I?

It depends on how the place you ate processes their gift cards. If they have a separate machine (different from the credit card dialer) to process gift cards, normally they can't process tips. Since you got the credit card slip, most likely they process them in the same way as credit/debit cards, so your tip was almost certainly included. You can check for certain by calling the toll-free number or going to the company website to check your gift card balance.

Whenever I go for a massage, it is standard that you provide a tip usually depending on how much you like their work. I give 10% if it's average, 15% if it's good, and 20% if I think it was fabulous. The same for the pedicure, the tip goes up if there were other items included such as massage, scrub, special lotion. Let's face it ladies, they work for their tips, not wages.

At most chain restaurants you cannot put the tip on the gift card. If it is a privately owned restaurant you should ask the server. Different restaurants have different policies.

No...You didn't. The gift card is money. They just deduct whatever amount the bill is, plus tip and you get the balance...You're OK
