I don't know but I think it should have been nominated. I think "Little Miss Sunshine" was nominated and I didn't like that movie at all. "Dream Girls" was much better.

Well, I hate to bring up racism in hollywood, but how else can you explain it?
I mean yes, it DID recieve 8 other nominations, which is great and I'm really happy that the Oscar heads saw the potential of the movie in that sense, but c'mon, at least give it a nomination for best movie! It deserves it!
Think about The Color Purple, another movie with an all black cast: The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, it even got nominated for best picture, but it recieved NOT ONE AWARD. It didn't even recieve best director, even though Steven Spielburg was awarded the prestigious Directors Guild of America Award!
I have to say that I am very pleased that alot of black actors are being recognized in this awards show, and the Dreamgirls nominations are refreshing, but the Best Picture snub indeed is a slap in the face.
Oh, and of course the Oscar commitee will say that it's not predjudice at all since they already nominated Dreamgirls in 8 other categories. What a great cover up!

I'm thinking the academy just has to nominate every movie the Clint Eastwood makes and, since Little Miss Sunshine (which I loved!) was already nominated as the token comedy/musical, Dreamgirls was out. What a shame, though. It was a good movie and, normally, I hate musicals.

I haven't seen the film but I've seen the trailers. My guess is because the majority of the cast were Afro-American and - realistically - Hollywood is run, owned and controlled by - WHITE GUYS !! The day an American film with a largely Afro-American cast is nominated for an Oscar....will definitely be the day the world ends ! ....in the U.S. anyway !!
