No, Mario still owns the team, and he is halfway to moving it to Kansas City. He is running out of patience trying to negotiate a new arena deal with the Three Stooges up here...that would be Pennsylvania Governor "Fast Eddie" Rendell, Allegheny County Executive in Charge of Mismanagment Dan Onorato, and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke "The Teen-Aged Wonder" Ravenstahl.

If you are a Pens' fan in Western Pennsylvania, wake up....the team is closer to leaving than you think....Mario has been blown off and lied to on the arena issue almost since the day he rescued the team from bankruptcy....when PNC Park and Heinz Field were built, he declined to jump on the bandwagon, opting for some renovations to Mellon Arena, and assurances that the new arena would be forthcoming in the future whenever it became necessary....an assurance that was obviously not lived up to.

I got an idea...it's not much, but then it's better than doing nothing but whining on the talk shows. If you are a Penguin fan in Western Pa., let's boycott the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County...these schmucks have turned their backs on us, now we turn our backs on them. If you live or work there, obviously, there's nothing you can do about your tax money (wage, real estate, occupation, etc.), but the rest, we can spend as we see fit, and until there is an arena deal in place, and the Pens' future in the 'Burgh secure, I see fit not to spend one dime in Allegheny County. (It's easier for me because I work in Pittsburgh, but live in neighboring Westmoreland County, but it's doable for most people.)

I am expressing my displeasure with my wallet...there are shopping malls, movie theaters, gas stations, other entertainment venues, etc., in all the surrounding counties....Westmoreland, Washington, Butler, Beaver, Armstrong....there's Beaver Valley Mall, Westmoreland Mall, Clearview Mall in Butler...there are Wal-Marts, Home Depots, Giant Eagles (supermarkets for those not familiar with the area) BP and Sunoco stations every fifty yards or so any more, finding one outside Allegheny county is not a problem....if I gas up the car going to or from work, I will do it on the Westmoreland County side of the border...I refuse to order lunch at work, or go out for lunch...I will bring it with me from home. Get the drift? Not one stinking red cent for Allegheny County.

If you really want the Pittsburgh Penguins to remain here for the forseeable future this is about all you can do, and if enough of us do it, who knows, maybe we will be noticed. You can call the talk shows, but you know the Three Stooges don't pay any attention to them....and do you really think the Three Wise Men personally read your letters and e-mail? That's what interns are for (please, no Clinton jokes here, this is serious stuff).

I guess if you are feeling especially militant, once you collect a bunch of receipts, you could mail them to Onorato or Ravenstahl, explain that the receipts represent money normally spent in Allegheny County and the reason why is was spent elsewhere.

Yeah, I know, it's probably just a futile gesture...what's going to happen is going to happen despite any actions on our part...all I know is that doing nothing isn't an option...and if enough people jump on the bandwagon, maybe we will get a little attention and consideration...it can't hurt.

Penguins si, Allegheny County no...got it?

Cosby hasn't bought the team, but the latest news out of both Dallas and Pittsburgh seems to indicate the deal in Pittsburgh is falling through. Whether the team relocates to Kansas City, Houston or somewhere else will still have to be approved by the NHL Board of Governors. At this point, it's anybody's guess as to whether they will go along with the move. But the bottom line is that time is running out for the official in Pittsburgh to make an offer the Pens ownership will find acceptable. Mario gave them 30 days on January 4th, three weeks of that time will be up tomorrow, Thursday 1/25. Plus, when he was interviewed yesterday Mario sounded really frustrated with the official in Pennsylvania. All of this looks bad for Pittsburgh and good for either Kansas City or Houston.

I do NOT like the Penguins. I don't really know why. I do not have a good reason. I am a Stars fan, and don't really have a team in the East that is my second favorite... but I have always disliked the Penguins. I even admit that Lemieux is a great player, and a likeable guy. I think the same can be said about Jagr. I guess I just got tired of all the attention the media gave to that team during the last 2 decades. I don't have anything against the town. I really like the Steelers, and have been a fan of that organization. I just DO NOT LIKE the Penguins. I think Crosby is overrated, and honestly because I do not like the Pens, I find myself liking Ovechkin and Semin in Washington more and more because they are better than Crosby and Malkin. Sorry to be a hater, but I am. I admit it, and embrace it.

They are going to stay in Pittsburgh! Everybody relax! Gov. Rendell is just finding new ways to tax us before they build the new arena!

This city is not gonna let them go, they are going to be hoisting the Stanley Cup over their heads in the next three years!!!!!

Not true. Even if it was he wouldn't move them to Houston (?), that would be bizarre.
