Hi. FDC is your floppy drive controller. http://www.pcguide.com/vb/archive/index.php/t-803.html The drive itself may have failed. If you don't need it anymore, just disconnect the cables. Otherwise replace it.

Hello,

(ANS) this error message is telling you that your computers (FDC) "Floppy Disk Controller" has a problem or is at the root of the problem here. By pressing F1 the system ignores it and trys to load without it. Looks like the floppy disk controller has gone i.e. this is a hardware problem. It depends if the FDC is built into the systemboard or motherboard or NOT.

**If the FDC is built onto the actual floppy disk as many used to be, then it might be as simple as replacing the floppy disk drive with a new one, which costs about £10.

However, if the FDC is "onboard" i.e. built into the motherboard then its more difficult & problematic and could mean you have to replace the entire motherboard. So you would be looking at £60+_

Hope thats of use?

Regards IR

I believe that message means your floppy disk controller (FDC)has encountered problems.

A simple way to check this is to open the case, unplug both the gray ribbon cable as well as the red/yellow/black cables from the back of the floppy drive and restart your machine.

If you get no error, then it is the floppy drive. Turn off the computer and plug both back in, and check to make sure the other end of the gray ribbon cable is connected firmly on the motherboard. Restart and see if the message comes back on.

It could be that one of the cables was loose. If you still get the message after making sure all the cables are correctly attached, then it could be that your floppy drive is broken.
