- consider that we currently do some $2billion corss border trade A DAY
- consider also that the only know terrorist to enter US soil from Canada - Ahmed Ressam "the Millenium Bomber" did so with a fake passport..

I think it is going to affect a lot. As a Canadian, all the good things I know about Americans are from sitting down with them and having a beer together while on holidays. It is different when you put names and faces to the nation. The news tells me all the bad things.

For all those people that don't travel, they may drive to the next city across the border if it is easy. But going through the hassle of getting a passport, plus the fees, is another thing. Many aren't going to bother. Tourism is going to be down again for the next little while.

Safer? No. It doesn't make a difference.

Honestly I don't think it will have much of an impact, at least at first. You don't need a passport for another year if you drive across the border (both Canadian and Mexican), so why fly when you can drive if you're close enough.

Will it make the US safer? As you have already pointed out, not necessarily since you can forge passports just like other means of identification.

ALL WELL, what we should really be worried about is all of the mexicans just using a "hole-inna-fence" to get over here!
