An african-american highschool basketball recruit was planing on playing for a school out of state. On signing day his mother forged her son's signiture on the letter of intent and faxed it to a different school closer to home. When asked why she did this she said she wanted her son to play for a black coach.

Is this racist?

Yes and they would have made a HUGE DEAL out of it had it been the other way around. That a white mother didn't want her white son to be coached by a black coach. But that's life. Unfair oh well.

I don't think it's racist. The media is making a big deal out of this year's first Super Bowl with Black coaches. It seems to me that sports "experts" have decided among themselves that being a Black coach means being an inferior coach. Maybe that mom just wants her son to play for a Black coach because he's coaching a successful team. All parents want their kids to be successful, right?

That would depend on why. If she though that a black coach would be better, yes but if her son had been treated badly by a white coach, no

It's racist, ignorant, and if I were the guy I would tell the coach that my signature was forged and I would go to the school of my choice.

sure is. not the common racism society is used to but a decision made based on race is certainly racist by definition.

rac·ism
NOUN:

The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Sounds like it to me.
