Don't misconstrue your parents concern for disbelief. I am SURE they love you very much and know that your talents are amazing. However, as a parent, we always want what WE think is best for our children.
Sometimes we are wrong and sometimes we are right. Parents are so protective of their children that sometimes we are just blinded by the path that we think is best for our children. One thing you can do is compromise. Focus on something that you all can agree upon.
For example, You continue to hold your passion for music and dance but also study hard and have a nice career to "fall back on." You can be BOTH. You can be a successful Accountant AND a talented singer/dancer or You can be a Doctor or a Lawyer AND a singer/dancer.
This is something that will make both you and your parents happy. They won't worry as much knowing that you have a great plan and a career to fall back on.
Just so you know...Most NFL Pro football players have OTHER careers in finance, real estate, law, etc....
Your parents are there to guide you, not to break you down. They don't want to destroy your dreams, they just want what is best for you.
TALK TO THEM! :D Parents are always good listeners and if they know you are levelheaded and responsible they will support any endeavor you choose for your career. Trust them. Coming up with compromise is a very wise and mature thing for a child to do with a parent.
Good Luck with everything and NEVER give up your hopes, dreams and NEVER give up on your parents. :D

It's great that you can sing and dance! And, it must feel wonderful to be asked to perform. More importantly, your self confidence and faith in your talent is so, so important and necessary for your success. Don't let your parents bring your spirit down. They may think that they are helping you in their own way.
When they say that don't believe you can have a career in music, they may just be trying to prepare you for the long, hard path to success. Show business is a hard, tricky road filled with many disappointments and dead ends. That's why your passion is so important. That will be the thing that will get you through the tough times.
If each day dawns with you feeling passionate about music, pursue your dream. Become a great singer. Become a great dancer. Work at your craft every chance you get. The better you get, the more likely a career will develop.
Remember, singing and dancing are your passions. Whether they turn into a career or not, at least you'll be able to say you followed your passion. Not every passion turns into a career. Try to see your parents "not believing" more as caution and less as doubt.
Most importantly, work at your craft and never accept "No" from someone who isn't authorized to give you a "yes".

That is exactly what half of the American Idol perfomers say. They all beleive they are great but only about 1% really are.
Careers in music are hard to comeby. It takes more than talent. It takes luck and hard work and then probably more luck.
No problem with finding a day job if your career just does't take off.
Oh and David Lee Roth use to say the his dad told him "he would never amount to anything". Dave said that he would. looks like theye were both right.

Wow, someone else bellydances. I'M NOT ALONE IN THE WORLD! lol
But yeah, musical careers are rough. It's hard to get, especially now, because it's all IMAGE IMAGE IMAGE. You gotta be drop dead sexy and look fabulous opposed to have any talent with how it works now. Ugh, it's a nightmare. But, don't cave in to it. If you got talent, stick with it and strive to always improve. That way, if anyone ever says you'll never make it with that hair, that body, that whatever, at least you can say back, " Oh yeah, well at least I have REAL TALENT. "

Just tune out your parents when it comes to your dreams. Yeah it sucks that they don't believe in you BUT you have to get around that. Maybe find a way to perform. Then when you get big audiences invite them. Show them that people like your abilties. If they still have a problem as them what it is.

really successful people have to survive on believing in themself. everyone doubts them until they prove everyone wrong, then you hear people saying, " i always knew she would be something"
