Most reptile species are oviparous (egg-laying). Many species of squamates,(Squamata --lizards, snakes and amphisbaenids , approximately 7,900 species) however, are capable of giving live birth. This is achieved, either through ovoviviparity (egg retention), or viviparity (babies born without use of calcified eggs). Many of the viviparous species feed their fetuses through various forms of placenta analogous to those of mammals . They often provide considerable initial care for their hatchlings.

From what I can understand, there are two categories of kinds of birth for reptiles:
ovidpororosis-egg laying (most prevalent)
ovoviviparous-these hatch their offspring internally

most Lizards are egg layers (sometimes not though)
some salamanders hatch internally
snakes are both
Pythons are egg layers
Boas-internal hatching
