it has made kids lazy and anti-social. most kids would rather stay home and play on the internet than go outside and play.

It depends on the youth's base personality. If his base personality tends to be negative, his interests will be negative and he'll most likely head down that road on the internet as well. If the youth's base personality is positive, his interests will tend toward the positive side, even though he may view a few negative items out of curiosity. The best advice I can give, is for the adult (parent, teacher, etc.), to know the youth and at least do spot checks to monitor what he is doing while on the internet. The adult may have to learn a thing or two in order to keep tabs on his activity, but it can be quite worthwhile if the adult suspects the child is on the wrong path. Once the child exhibits proper use (including fun stuff like chatting with their peers in a positive way), of the internet, the spot checks can become less frequent. But once again, knowing the youth is the best way to deciding when to monitor and how much. Even good kids can get sucked in by bad guys due to lack of experience so it's good to keep the computer in a common area where it can be viewed by the adult at any time. Good luck! :)

The internet could have been a valuable resource.....but is not fully used by the youth of today. If a student were asked to do a paper or report on someone or something, the student would typically google and print. No thinking required. No decision making needed to be done. Then they try to declare that it is unfair they might not perform as well on standardized tests as they want to be able to do...or they cannot understand how to take a volume of information and use it to form conclusions, make decisions, or take educated risks on choices.
It is one thing to access information freely and without effort. It is another thing to be able to use the information to form decisions, evaluate possibilities and options, solve problems.
Kids now do not know how to solve problems creatively. They would rather say, "Tell me what to put here so I get it right." than to spend the time and energy in researching, deciding and taking the best chance to solve something.
The internet is a tool that endorses their ability to be LAZY and to NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY for the tasks asked of them. They are completely happy to spit out the words they see without understanding the content or meaning of what they read. As one answer on here states....dumbing down... definitely

Its a two way street it can open you to new worlds, research is at your fingertips, you can meet people from the other side of the world and learn they are quite a bit like yourself!
But the seamy side is porn is very available and the sick side of humanity prowls the internet like cockroaches preying on the unsuspecting. Teens aren't as bad at being stupid about people on the internet as they were 10 years ago but they still can get into bad stuff and all they need only to turn around and see reality to get away from it but it can become very addicting. Also they don't get outside and exercise enough.. which causes health problems.

Maybe it's just me but I think the Internet has dumbed down most of the youth. Their spelling is HORRIFIC and they no longer need to go to the library and research from books because you can google anything and get just as much information if not more. Plus, Myspace is a perverts dream come true!

In my opinion, information is now readily available so no work has to go into doing much research on different subjects. The library is now something that they don't have to walk into in order to research things and really dig into the subject. Couple of words typed in a search engine and bang... the world has 1.2 million pages to try and sort.
The Internet has also exposed them to information that they may not need to know at certain ages.

They are pretty good at multitasking, but they are declining in their social skills.
They need more "face time" with people.....it helps to keep them in check with reality.....
You can easily say horrible things about someone when you are online....you never have to see them or make eye contact. When face to face, things are much different.....this will be a huge communication disorder in the future....people will have a difficult time talking face to face with other people, even if it is easy for them to communicate with the same people through email, im, texting.......
