The Shawshank Redemption.

The hurricane has to be in there along with lord of the rings, shawshank redemption, rocky 1, Mad max 1&2.

But the only film that has really made me think about it on many different levels is battle royale. It's the only film with subititles that i've ever sat through and watched, yes it is full of gory violence but not in a glamourised american way, the relationships between the characters are brilliant the paranioa and distrust between the classmates drive them into the battle. The bad guy teacher who puts them in there who for some reason every scene he's in makes you fell kinda sorry for him and see his reasons for what he's doing, then theres a sort of black humour running through the film too.

I'd say everyone should watch this film at least once, lots of people wil proberly say it's a distasteful, sick film but they are not seeing what the film is about. It is a violent film but it's not promoting violence it's trying to show how wrong it is.

There is rumour of an american remake I really hope that they do this one right.

Liked the Shawshank Redemption but to me the greatest film is "12 Angry Men" based on the jury in one room - pure acting, no special effects - great stuff

The best as it was done? Or the one I will never stop watching? As for the first meaning, I don't know...there are so many wonderful films. Just off the top of my head Casablanca, Young Lions, Crash, Million Dollar Baby, Insider... I could add a hundred if I gave it some more time. The one I'll never stop watching is 4 weddings and a funeral. To me, it's perfect.
