casting off is easy. Knit 2 stitches then take the first one you knitted over the top of the second one and off the end of the needle. The second stitch will hold the first in place. Then knit another stitch and put the second over the top of that and so on, repeat until you get to the final stitch, cut of the yarn and put it through the final stitch to secure that and you are done. It's easy but it takes a bit if practice to get the tension right. It needs to be fairly loose, so don't be disheartened if you have to have a few goes at it. One of the great things about knitting is no mistake is salvageable, you can always undo it and try again.

Have fun.

To cast off: knit 2 stitches like you normally do. This is where you start to cast off. Take your left hand needle stick it into the first stitch on the right needle, lift it up and bring it over and around the second stitch on the right needle. The first stitch is now off the right needle. Knit another stitch from the left needle and repeat till there are no stitches on the left needle. Hope this helps.
