it would be best to get data from those that work in this field than on yahoo. there's alot of variables when it comes to avalanches, and not all avalanches are the same. u have a slab avalanche: this 1, a huge pack of snow just breaks loose at once. then u have the powder avalanche: this 1 forms like a powder-like look as it slides down. it's also the fastest type, the slide rides on a cushion of air, and it can create tornado force winds that can blow houses apart before it buries it.

The bulk of the loose snow is brought down by an avalanche, however the snow at the bottom may not be stable and may fall further down the mountainside.
And then there is the problem that the next time it snows you are setting up for an avalanche again.
And someone said to get confirmation from a geologist, wrong profession, you need a meteorologist (which I am not, just well read) trust me or not it is your choice

Miss Dementia, the fact that Prince Friso gave up his place in the line of succession to the Dutch throne had nothing to do with the fact that his wife is a commoner. His brothers also married commoners. It had everything to do with his fiancee's public dishonesty regarding her association with a criminal. However, Friso had virtually no chance of inheriting the throne anyway. By the time he married, his older brother was married and a father to the Netherlands' future queen, Princess Catherina-Amalia. There was really no point in Friso's trying to get the Dutch Parliament's permission for marriage when his chances of inheriting the throne were so remote by 2004.

Most of the snow comes down the first time.
For this reason the authorities use explosives to make a site temporarily safe.

UNless you get an answer from a geologist or someone who deals with this every day I wouldn't take an answer from here and include it as fact in a book.
