Okay, first thing's first. Everyone wants a miracle cream that will make their face fabulous and flawless the very next day. The simple fact is: there is no such cream!
There are a few simple steps that EVERYONE must follow to obtain and maintain beautiful healthy skin. You must, however be truly dedicated to obtaining beautiful skin, because you will NOT see results over night and you have begin incorporating this into your morning and nightly routine.
Here are the steps:
1) Wash your face.
Whether or not your skin is oily, I do not recommend buying a facial wash special made for oily skin. Facial washes for oily skin dry out your skin. You may notice with these face washes that your skin isn't oily after you wash it, and boy how nice it is to see your face not oily! I bet your face gets oily not too long afteryou wash your face though, and there is a reason for that. Your face has thousands of oil glands, the purpose of oil glands is to produce oil and keep your skin from drying out. When you use a face wash that dries it up, your oil glands sense that your face is dry, so they kick into high gear producing tons of oil to keep your face hydrated, but they don't stop. Meanwhile your face begins to look oily and "gross." EVERYONE MUST FIND a cleanser that is not too drying for their skin, or else you are sabatoging your own face!
I RECOMMEND: foaming face washes are best, they are gentle (non-drying) and suitable for ALL skin types. My personal favorite is Clean&Clear Foaming Face Wash. Keep in mind when you switch to a new face wash it may feel a bit drying for the first few days. Also, make sure you lather the foam gently in upward cirlce motions on your face. NEVER pull at your skin.
2) Use toner:
When you wash your face it does not remove all of the dirt and oil that your face has accumulated through that day/night. Toner removes the last traces impurities from your face leaving it clean. The pads with toner in them are usually harsh and abrasive. Invest in some cotton balls. Put some toner on a cotton ball and wipe it along your face in a gentle upward motion. Don't use more than two cotton balls, using more than two cotton balls with toner risks drying out your face and telling those oil glands to start making more pimples! This is when you would remove any eye make-up, read below in additional tips for directions and products to remover eye-makeup.
I RECOMMEND: don't use a toner with alcohol, it is drying and it smells bad anyway! My absolute favorite toner (best I've found to date), is Lumene's Moisture Dream - it smells fabulous! Also Lumene's Milky Touch works well.
3) Moisturize your skin:
No matter how dry or how oily your face is moisturizing your face is NECESSARY. After washing and toning, apply just a small dab of moisturizer, too much will make your face greasy-looking and feeling. The way that works best for me is I put a pea-sized amount in my hand and rub it all over into both my hands. Then, I pat my face, paying careful attention that I get all areas of my face, from the crease of my nose to my eyebrows.
***DO NOT use facial moisturizer around your eyes. The skin around your eyes is very fragile. Make an A-OK sign with your right hand, you should touch your pointer finger to your thumb in a circle shape, and the rest of the fingers straight up. Put the cirlce aroun your eye. This area, large as it may seem, is where you should avoid putting regular facial moisturizer. Use a special eye cream for this area. Since the eye area is so delicate, you should not pull at your eyes when you apply eye cream. Make dots around your eye area with the eye cream, using your ring finger. Use your ring finger to lightly pat the cream into the entire eye area.
I RECOMMEND: for regular facial moisurizer I like to use Olay Total Effects with SPF 15. For eye cream I use Olay Total Effects Eye Transforming Cream or Nivea Multiple Results Eye Cream.
4) Get RID of that PIMPLE:
As I said, there is no overnight miracle cream, but if you do have a pimple, dab a VERY thin layer of pimple cream on it to help it along it's way off your face. Don't leave gobs of it on your face like you see on TV, and as many of your friends surely do. If you cover it in a thick layer, your skinn will not be able to breathe, and the pore will be blocked, only trapping the pus in that pimple even longer. A thin layer will allow it to open up and slowly heal from the pimple.
I RECOMMEND: anything with benzoyl peroxide. I like to use 10% benzoyl peroxide cream that goes on clear, I will not use anything with salylic acid because it dries out my skin and does nothing to affect the pimple.
ADDITIONAL TIPS:
-You should always put sun-screen on, but putting it on your face is especially important. The skin on you face is fragile and it is exposed to wind damage, sun damage, dirt and oil every DAY! Our faces are exposed to much more than the rest of our skin, so we need to take special care of it if we want to keep it healthy into old age.
- ITS TRUE WHAT THEY SAY: you are what you eat. Your skin reflects your dietary habits. If you eat lots of oily and buttery food, your face will have lots of oily pimples. THE BEST ADVICE I could ever give, is to exercise, eat healthy (no more chick-fil-a), and drink plenty of water. You can't beat that right there. Also, chocolate does NOT make you break out. The butter in chocolate makes you break out. Stick with dark chocolate, it is better for your overall health. It has almost no butter and fat, and the higher the percent of cocoa in it the better it is for your body too!
- NEVER EVER EVER EVER!!!! pick or pop pimples. When you do this, you are streching the skin and you will leave scars for the rest of your life. You may have done it all your life and your face looks fine, but the older you get the less collagen you have in your skin. The less collagen you have, the more those scars will become visible. In other words, the older you get, the worse you will look. Who wants to be a 25 year old that looks like a 40 year old with holes in her face just because she didn't take care of her skin!?
-your hands touch everything all day long, keeping them off of your face will help keep it clean and pimple free!
-IF YOU WEAR EYE MAKEUP: you can remove it with a cotton ball and some eye makeup remover, which is made special for your eye area so it is gentle. You eye area is very delicate so make sure to treat it accordingly. Do this when you are done toning your face but before you moisturize. I like to use Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover because it does not sting my eyes, and it will even remove water proof mascara. By far the best one I've used as of yet.
<< I think I covered everything you need to know! Just remember to have patience. Your face may take a few weeks or a few months to clear up, but if you stick to this skin cleansing regimine your face will clear up and it will be healthy for the rest of your life. Just remember to do this twice a day, in the morning and at night, maybe a third time after an intense work out. GOOD LUCK! >>
