A report on News24.com states your Cities are a couple of billion Rand short and they haven't even commenced building. Will the taxpayer foot the bill? Maybe the ANC will call in Bono or Geldoff or best of all St Oprah. More likely out with the begging bowl to FIFA.

Take Notice- I hardly think comparing a War situation to a Sporting event is relevant.FIFA have already contributed millions of Dollars to the event. What happened to it? A few months ago someone suggested it would never reach it's intended destination. Looks like that is true.

Diesel - Why do you wear your intelligence on your sleeve or can you not face up to the fact that the ANC cannot plan anything because they are too busy looting the Country.

Kaelyx - Based on your numbers what kind of Stada are they building? The new Wembley cost around 11 billion Rand to construct which is twice your budget for 10 Stadia. This is the premier sporting event on the Planet which South Africa is about to demean despite the boasts of Mbeki that " we will have the best World Cup ever." Also the ANC plans seem to always remain plans ( Blatter offered them picks and shovels a few months ago) and Cape Town can only commence construction in March. You believe the propaganda websites but the truth is 2010 will not happen in South Africa.Ask Helen Zille. Why do you think she has delayed the Cape Town Stadium.

Moloi - Care to expand on " cos it's good for the Country." You will be left with 10 White Elephants which your local sport cannot support. Your Tourist base will continue to be Africans from neighbouring territories as Tourist from other Continents are only to well aware of your violent crime situation. You have insufficient Hotel accommodation and hence Koetbroek insults the intelligence by declaring "In a first for FIFA, Boarding Houses and Game Parks will accommodate football fans." Football fans will want to watch football not wild animals ( which they can see in your streets anyway) and the so called Boarding Houses will fold after 4 weeks. The crime industry will make a short term killing( excuse the pun). What long term benefits do you envisage?

Chucky - Now ask yourself -Who is the taxpayer? Another devious ANC scheme to
transfer wealth from one sector of the population for a cause that has no long term economic benefit and serves only to feed the egos of the European/African Mbeki and company.

Gunner - The joke is on you and all South Africans. The whole show is being run for the benefit of the ANC elite and their chosen ones. They are the ones who will make money and you are the ones ( along with FIFA) who will pay for it.

Moloi - Want to take a small bet on that. By the end of this year it will be bound for the US. All the contingency plans are in place.

Dolphin Sa - You wont beg FIFA? They have already contributed million and millions of dollars so will the ANC be handing it back. And Mbeki publicly begged the Germans to come and help with the organisation. They did initially but gave up because every meeting was back to square one with no progress. Did you not see Beckenbauer's comments- and he is one of the most respected men in the game.

The government is given a budget years in advance, which will come from taxes. Of the budgeted spending for the next three years R15 billion is going towards development for the World Cup.
So, yes, we are short for the overall budgeted spending, but taxpaying is an ongoing process. Also, FIFA give a percentage of the overall costs of building the stadium, so the worry is not funds, rather the construction running on time...
Construction of the stadium itself is due to begin in February this year. Development on other aspects have already begun, such as the main airport, the roads, public transport, and security.
"R5.6 billion will go to the building of five new stadiums, R1.95 billion to the upgrading of five existing stadiums, R586 million for the provision of services to these stadiums and R5.5 billion for supporting infrastructure, including transport and communication."
So let's just hope things go according to plan... this could really help South Africa recover!!!

I think that South Africa is going to loose the opportunity to host the 2010 due to the crime rate there is alot already been said about that and which makes it much worst is that our own president doesnt know what is going on in his own country because he is never here to see how bad the crime is.
I think South Africa is not only financially unable to host the 2010, they had just gone to may steps backwards from where they were.
Conclusion South Africa is eventually not going to host the 2010

Of course it will be the taxpayer, who pays for the American war in Iraq?
Personally i think that the existing stadiums should be upgraded, rather than building new ones.
At the end of the day our economy will benefit so i dont mind so much.

It will most probably be us apartheid era people who will foot the bill, as the government officials hasn't got enough money to feed their own families that is why there is so much corruption going on, just so they can feed their children. Eish, we live in a difficult situation here.

Do you know the saying by Aesop - It's easy to be brave from a distance? I think you need to be a part of that country to know its problems. As for 2010 - that's a problem you seem to have all the answers for. You should contact the planning committee with all your wisdom!
