My fav's are roses and peonies. Why? I love the way they smell, look and feel. Besides, my mom had a garden of them and seeing them reminds me of her. Her name was Mary Rose, I like to think of her as Merry Rose.

I have many, but this all depends on what you like. also consider what you want them for - ornamental, scent, location.

Peony is a one shot wonder. Gorgeous flowers and scent but then gone until next year. I have several, but my favourite is a tree peony that I have had for 13 years. Flowers are the size of cabbages, the scent is heavenly. So I take photos of it to enjoy all year.

I found that pernnial geraniums (comes in many colours and heights) are great for areas you do not really want to weed. They will spread and choke out weeds, and look pretty. Very hardy.

My absolute favorite are peonies. They don't bloom for very long (they're done in about 2 weeks, or less if there is a hard rain), but they're beautiful when in bloom. They take no care at all, just leave them alone and they'll do their thing. They also smell absolutely HEAVENLY!
