The first time it was deceptive wording. This time, though, the auction description and picture wasn't misleading in any way, just false. The item I bid for was a dvd box set. The item pictured was of the box (stock photo). I received some burned dvds instead.

No box. Just some copied dvds.

Contact the seller thru Ebay. Do not use your regular email. Do it thru the contact seller function. That way Ebay has a record of what was said. I would not be suprised if this guy ignores you but make sure there is record that you tried to contact him.

Have you contacted Ebay? It is specifically against their rules to sell copied DVDs. Go thru Safe Harbor and report this guy. Also, I find it helpful to send an email to the company that makes the DVDs. Try to send an email to their legal department saying that you had purchased DVDs from someone on Ebay that turned out to be pirated. Sometimes they can get things moving faster. Lots of companies want to sue Ebay for letting pirated stuff go thru the auctions but they need proof that Ebay is not doing anything to stop it. This might force Ebay to act a little quicker.

In any event, you may be stuck. The guy may be caught, kicked off of Ebay, and possibly even have legal action taken against him by the copyright holders, but there is no guarantee that you will get your money back.

You are most definitely being scammed. Never complete a transaction outside of eBay. If you do, you give up their Buyer Protection coverage. Tell him that's too bad for him, and if he wanted the funds to go to a different PayPal account, he should have used that account in his auction. You've sent payment and expect to receive your item. If you don't, tell him you'll be opening a dispute on eBay.

Was your item covered under Ebay/Paypal's insurance? You can report the offender and hope that Ebay will give you your money back.

Submit a complaint to eBay admin, and give the guy bad ratings. eBay's reputation as a broker is at stake and they can revoke the seller's right to sell, and they may even get you your $ back.

If you paid with PayPal through your credit card, try denying the charge on your credit card. It worked for me (once).

Probably. It is illegal to burn DVDs and sell them.

Get the guy!
