My girlfriend and I want to have children (naturally, from me). But since she is a girl and so am I (obviously), we cannot procreate together. So we were thinking either I develop a friendship then over time a relationship with a man to have a child with or we were opting to go with Artifical Insemination...Nothing is wrong with adoption...Its a great blessing to whom want to open their heart and home to a child who needs a family...but I would like my own children birthed from me for my girlfriend and I to raise...Which option do you think is best?

That's something that is an extremely personal choice between you and your partner.

Personally I would NEVER take any suggestions from totally strangers. Not regarding this anyway.

PS: Jibba Jabba...is FULL of CRAP!

As a MOTHER a LESBIAN and as a WOMAN I'm completely insulted that he thought he had an opinion at all on this!!

Hon, pay no attention to that jerk. I'm the mother of a Wonderful Seventeen year old son.
If God didn't "Want" me to have children, I never would have had him! He's fantastic and a BETTER MAN than Jibba Jabba will EVER DREAM of being!

I would opt for adoption or artificial insemination.

Adoption is great because there are children out there that need homes as we speak. Artificial Insemination is a good option, though it can be expensive.
The relationship with a man concept is alarming. So you are going to date a man on the side in the hopes that he will get you pregnant? Is that fair to the man? What if he wants to be the child's father and raise it? Will you just move and not tell him where you went? How will the relationship with the man affect your current relationship? I would not want my partner dating other men...jealousy would drive me crazy.

I would go with artifical insemination because I would want the child to be mine and my partners and not involve a man in our family.

Artificial Insemination. Hands down. It makes it easier in the long-run because no one has to worry about the "father" trying to make contact in the future. This may not be something you and your girlfriend would have a problem with, but my girlfriend doesnt want to worry about knowing the man who fathered the child because it would be too uncomfortable. Also, she doesnt want me to engage in any acts with a man & neither do i!!! So we're definitely doing artificial Insemination AND adopting.

I've thought through the same options for myself (as a single woman). I feel that getting some guy to go along with my idea would be difficult and awkward. It would have very strange implications for the life of the child. Personally, I would probably adopt, but if not, I'd go AI. Such a relationship with a guy would just be strange and difficult.

I would think finding a good male friend is a really great option.

In most, if not all states, sperm donors give up any claim of parental rights.

Two of my closest friends are a lesbian couple. One had expressed interest that I donate for them. It was difficult to tell my friend that I had had a Vasectomy after the birth of my third daughter, so couldn't be of help.

I wish you the best of luck in the formation of your new family.

go for the artifical insemination because that way the father has already given away any rights to the child that they could be helping create when they either donated or sold their sperm.

Unless you want the man in the picture (and maybe one day putting his foot down and wanting custody of the child) id go for artificial insemination.

Artificial Insemination. Maybe even use a donor from her blood relatives.

being gay does not have anything to do with the strenght of your DNA.

but: If you want to do the sperm bank thing, you can pick the father and he'll never know it. Therefore you won't have problems later on with him showing up to see his kid.
Those men are screened for intelligence and health. I'd go that route if I were you.

Or you can call me. IQ 130 and my dad is still kicking up a storm at the age of 85.
