NASA says the earth's rotation is slowing and that the moon is being pushed about an inch further away from us each year.
If the rotation is slowing, that means the years are going to get longer. Do we add more days to the year or more hours to the day?
I want more hours to the day, so I have more time to sleep...
I really hope they let us vote...

If they let us vote you just know that Florida is going to screw it up for the whole planet (again)...and those extra hours are going to be added to our work days instead.

You are correct in that the length of the day is changing and NO we will not get to vote on anything. The length of the day and year are being constantly adjusted (every few years there is a leap-second). This work is done by the International Earth Rotation Service. Go to their website and you will see that the length of the day is different each day. Just over the past year the length of the day has varied in a range approximately 3 milliseconds wide.

there's talk of tethering a large quantity of rockets to the earth as an aid to regaining the lost rotational speed. if they don't do that, i'm going to have to reset all my clocks an extra second in about 189 years.the rockets seem to be the sensible route.

I'm betting they will cross that bridge when they come to it. An inch is not too far really, it might take a very long time for anyone to notice any change. You and I wont be alive to care.

Nope - they are going to settle this in the manner that they always do. Drawing straws. I'm with you however, more hours in the day for more sleep!
