The trouble in Africa is not poverty or even disease: it's misogyny. Like many underdeveloped places, the culture keeps women from being able to achieve their full potential. It's a combination of ignorance and bad traditions, like the belief that women must cover themselves at all times when men have no such restrictions, or that women must be physically deformed in order to be marriable (FGM). People like Oprah and Bono are doing good things to fix the situation - opening schools, etc - but until those positive ethics are digested and incorporated by the people in Africa, and women take some control for themselves, they will continue to be an utterly untapped resource for improving the world.

it is hard for some people outside the primitive tribes of Africa, but for them they're adopted to this kind of life, By the way, not all Africa is as shown on TV. there are big cities with men and women holding great posts

Since most of Africa...alas...is undeveloped and being plagued by both famine and bitter tribal wars...I'd say that life in Africa is very harsh for both women AND men.
