first of all, relax. Go somewhere for a little bit to clear your mind. Go to the mall and get a pretzel or something. stay gone for an hour or two, and when you come home, you may just have a breakthrough. The longer you sit and think about it, the more your brain is going to block you. Seriously, this works:) Done it myself before.

When I have a large project to write about I don't concentrate on the number of words.
1/ Have you studied the subject matter and made some notes in bullet point form
2/ Bullet point ideas to add or research.
3/ Have a begining, middle and end.
4/ put this down in note form and see if it flows.
5/ re arrange and research as necessary
6/ write in long hand adding the connecting sentances that make it a flowing document.
If the essay is on a subject that bores the pants off you put on your favourite music in the background(not ear phones) old fashioned CD/casette and let it blast away. I find Pop Rock best such as Queen, or being an oldie a bit of Ultravox. or Led Zep

Get off the net and just write any old nonsense that comes into your head and strangely the thoughts will start to flow. Nothing is more off putting than a piece of blank white paper.

In ancient Greek times, students used to wear a wreath of rosemay on the head to aid memory and concentration. Rosemary oil on a burner or on the edge of a tissue is a great pick me up and mind stimulator. It'll keep you alert. Good luck.

Brainstorm. Think about what to write. Try free writing. It is best to try to not be stressed at all. I find that it is hard to write a good essay when I am stressed, tired or sore.
I am not very good at writing, but I think that these recommendations might help.
