I hate it when my pregnant patients come to their ultrasound appointments after drinking soda, energy drinks etc. Do you know how hard it is to get a decent study on a fetus who is moving around like crazy? Think of trying to focus in on or center a picture of a person with a regular camera who is moving around. It is very hard to get a study in which we can document all the anatomy of the fetus. Most mothers-to-be also are very disappointed when their baby is kicking their feet and legs around so much that we can't get a good look at the genitals. If a fetus is in a position (for example, legs pushed together so we can't see the genitals or baby facing towards the mothers spine so we can't see the face), I have had much better luck with having the mother use the restroom and move around. Most times, the baby will have moved after that so we can see the parts that were hard to visualize.

What you eat and drink does affect your fetus. If you drank an energy drink prior to your doctor's visit, not only should your child be overly active but your blood pressure may be elevated as well.
My son was always active regardless of what I ate or drank and it made the ultrasound sessions long and difficult because they couldn't get accurate measurements on him. An energy drink may have the same effect. I suppose it all depends on how long you want to spend doing an ultrasound.

Nope, i made the mistake of having a coffee on my way to my very expensive 3d ultrasound... even though caffiene isnt' totally cool for the little one. He was super active during the car ride there, then passed out cold for the whole ultrasound!
I told the technition i even drank caffiene to make him more active and she laughed at me... she said caffiene gives the baby an immediate jolt of energy but then burns him right out after and she sleeps... as mine did. DOH!
She suggests fresh orange juice before the ultrasound, drink it about 15 mins before and your baby should be all up and active!
No coke, no coffee, no chocolate, no energy drinks... it all has caffiene mmmkay
Best of luck!

I wouldn't recommend doing that... the baby moves a lot more the further along you are.
They prefer you have a full bladder so the baby does not move around to much... I couldn't stand it and went to the bathroom while waiting and when I went back for the ultrasound my baby moved around so much they could hardly get any measurements!

just eat a candy bar and don't mess with an "energy" drink
The sugar should make the baby more active.
Most babies are lulled to sleep by Mom's motionso get to the appt. early enough to sit down and relax and let the baby wake up
However don't mess with eating or drinking something if this is the appt. to get your blood sugar tested. You don't want to screw up that result.

If you want your baby to move during an ultrasound, try drinking orange juice before you go. I had to have weekly non-stress tests when I was pregnant with my daughter. On one visit, she wouldn't move. I could usually get her to move by calling my husband on my cell phone and put the phone on my belly so she could hear his voice. This particular day, it wasn't working, so they gave me some orange juice to drink and it got her moving.

The baby will move when it wants to. U only should be drinking water be4 an ultrasound. Your bladder has to be full since its used as a starting piont.

No, and I wouldn't suggest it. If you want that burst of energy, drink a glass or two of ice cold OJ about 20 min. before you go in. I did this and my baby was all over the place! Good luck.
