I have had it done many times. There are two different types (in general) of bikini waxes. 1. Regular bikini wax 2. Brazilian bikini wax.
I first started with the regular bikini wax. With that they just remove the hair that is visible when you are in your swim suit, just off the sides if you want. Every place is different but where I first went I just wore a pair of panties that weren't so nice just in case wax got on them. Some places provide disposable panties for you. You can all ways ask when you make the appointment too. I would strongly recommend starting off with the regular bikini wax.
The Brazilian bikini wax is where they take EVERYTHING off. That means everything from the top all the way to the back if you want them to. It took me a few years to build up the courage to get that done. And YES it does hurt.
In most cases you don't have to worry if it will be embarrassing. Everyone that I have ever met that does this type of service is very professional. They make you feel very comfortable, almost like going to the doctor. I would recommend that you go to a nicer more up scale salon for this type of service. Usually they have a nicer environment and will make you feel more comfortable than a "hole in the wall" salon.
It allways hurts the first time, espically if your hair is coarse. But over time, if you do continue to have it done regulary, your hair will grow back thinner and eventually won't grow back at all. Well I hope I helped you. Good luck, and have fun on your holliday!

From personal experience -
Your beautician should talk you through the process before she leaves you to change into your paper thong.
Bikini - general tidy around the edges
Brazilian - all off on top except a strip in the middle
Playboy - as a Brazilian except a shorter strip and all off underneath.
Hollywood - everything off - right up the back too !!
Yes it hurts. No the beautician wont be embarrased - you might be the first time but if you continue to see the same beautician then you won't be the next time.
Have it done at least 2 days before your holiday and use a scrunchie/body buffer thing in the shower to prevent ingrown hairs.
I would never go back to being hairy again - it's clean and cool and very sexy !!

will not be at all embarrassing for the beautician so don't worry about that you will have to remove trousers so make sure you do wear pants but it doesn't matter which type, as long as she can easily get to the areas she needs to. She will be discreet and use towels to cover you, you will feel a bit sore for a few hours and may have some blood spotting but this is quite normal. Watch out for ingrowing hair though. Have a great holiday

Just wear you bikini bottoms - that way the beautician ca make sure there are no stray hairs poking out. Not embarrassing as they do it all the time.
One tip - take a couple of paracetamol before you go and should numb the pain a bit. Doesn't hurt as much as getting your legs waxed though!

I get my bikini line waxed every once in a while, it lasts longer and feels much smoother than shaving or creams...
go to a high quality salon or spa that you trust will be able to do a good job. basically, you go in a small private room, the technician will wait outside as you remove your pants (you can wear your own panties, or the salon will usually provide a disposable pair, i suggest using them because the wax can ruin your cloth panties!), then when you are ready, the tech will come in and start the process. it is not embarrassing, i don't think. it is a bit uncomfortable, obviously, but the person working on you wears gloves (or should be wearing gloves!), and does this as a living, so they are used to it. it is YOUR first time doing this, not theirs, you know what i mean...?
anyways, do it ...oh, and tip them well! ; )

It is like regular waxing, pain is tolerable (if any) if the beautician is experienced; since the beauticians are professionals there is no need to feel uncomfortable. Wear regular knickers.

The therapist is well trained and has done this many times b4 so you have nothing to fear. Wear some full crotch knickers but not your best ones. You lie on the couch keeping kickers on and therapist puts wax on then tear it off with the rag. It is very quick and although there is a sensation this soon passes when she puts the cooling lotion on. You will be advised not to shower for a few hours.

the first time would properly be painful as you may have an invaluable little bit of hair. in case you get your legs executed in many cases - each 2 months, it doesn't harm a lot. do not understand something about the different kinds of waxing. it relies upon on you as to how embarrasing you hit upon it. purely loosen up.
