I opened an account at Lloyds TSB when I had no job. At most banks, you don't need to be earning, just make sure you have some money to open an account with. I opened mine with £20. I didn't get a job until a year after opening my account. It came in handy though when I started work as I didn't have to faff about getting an account, I already had one waiting and was able to give bank details to my employer straight the way.

The bank require you to put money in your account. They do not require you to have a job. So any bank will give you an account.
