Age dating of sedimentary rocks that has undergone extreme heat and changes its properties; metamorphosed into metamorphic rocks should be done with precoution. The age ranges resulted from the test most likely will indicates the age of metamorphic rather than the true age of the sedimentary rock. Why don't try look-up for fossils. Group of archeologist probably interested in pliocene and holocene age range or probably recent, if you refering to extreme low temperatures, I don't think there is much changes in rock properties.

Rocks can be dated by the proportion of original radioactive nuclides and post-disintegration nuclides. If a rock (even sedimentary) is reheated by nearby lava, recrystallation may occur and some of the nuclides lost distorting the proportions.
