Well I have a one year old boy and I am pregnant, due in september. I plan on keeping the newborn in a bassinett for the first couple of months and then I was thinking about putting the baby in the crib that my one year old is currently using. Do you think 2 years old is to young to have a toddler bed if it has side rails? Should I think of a different plan? Also I was wondering how am I going to deal with a newborn and a 21 month old? Is it hard? I am just a little nervous and would like some advice.

I got pregnant with my son when my daughter was 23 months and i got her into a toddler ber right away so she had time to get use to it and not be jealous when the baby came home and was useing the crib. I told her that she was a big girl and big girls got to stay up longer and sleep in a big girl bed, i never had one problem with it. Of course it will be hard, but after a few weeks you will be right on track. In my expierence the hardest part was getting the baby home and getting into a rutine and getting stuff put where i could get to it eaisier. Now my daughter is 3 1/2 and my son is 9 months and they are best friends. Its wonderful to see your baby as a big sister/brother.

I have friends who are going through the same situation. They have a 2 yr old and a 7 month old. It has been trying for them but they have said that it's all about trying to get into some sort of routine. (If possible)

Something as simple as "Bath-time" is a challenge but your 21 month old should be big enough to sit on her own in the tub giving you some free time to bathe your newborn at the same time. We lent them a baby seat for the tub for the newborn and it worked great when bathing both.

As far as the bed goes. They had their 17 month old in her own bed just before the birth of the newborn. If there are rails, it shouldn't be a problem.

But putting them in the same crib is not a good idea as the newbron could get smothered by the other one. Our 19 month old moves around like a jumping bean and is all over the crib. If possible, try the bed thing asap!

Congratulations and good luck.

I introduced a toddler bed around 20 months with all of my children. It has its ups and downs but you need to be patient.

I had a 20 month old and a newborn and I survived. Of course your going to have a few stressfull times because your older one will want to play and you cant at that same second, etc. But you will all learn to adapt to each other in a matter of time.

I also had a son who was 32 months a daughter who was 12 months and a newborn.

Patience is the key.

2 years is when most people put their toddleres in beds with rails. My 2 sons are 2 1/2 years apart and I worried the same as you as how to deal with another newborn but it just comes naturally. It will all flow perfect for you, because thats what nature intended.

My son was 18 1/2 months old when my daughter was born and he moved to his big boy bed at 21 months. My daughter just moved to her big girl bed at 25 months so that the crib could be used for my 3rd who is due in a few weeks. Both my kids did great with the transition. It worked out great with my daughter because she's a climber and I was worried she was going to start tossing herself out of her crib anyway so the timing was good for us.

So in my opinion two is a fine time .. you have to do what is best for you and your family.

Congrats!

Mine our 12 months apart. When our first was 18months, he started crawling out of the crib and we moved him to a toddler bed, did just fine after transitioning. Completely baby proofed the room too.
You also may want to try this before the baby is born, dont want two kids giving you sleepless nights.
