Why are there such things as Miss Black America pageants and scholarships offered only to black people, etc.? Can you imagine the fits and riots they would throw if there were a Miss WHITE America pageant? Why the double standard?

:) Why don't I start a Miss White America Pageant instead of complaing? Because I don't think there should be any such stupid thing..that's not the point! The point is if everyone wants to be equal, then why do they create separate things like that. Blacks haven't been kept out of pageants, schools, etc. in many years. If you have a black pageant just because you weren't allowed to a long time ago, why don't you have black water fountains and stuff since you couldn't use the white ones back then? Same principal.

Having seperate events for blacks isn't racist at all. Its almost always neccessary. More so in the eras procceding the civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s, but still necessary to day
Its hard to understand if you are not white, so I don't neccessarily take offense to white Americans who feel this practice is unfair. But I will try to explain:
On most television sitcoms, there is usually a cast of mostly white people and one "token" black person. The same is true of most reality shows and even The Miss America Pagent (and other pagents). While this may be a "normal" situation for most white people, because white people are usually mostly around white people, as that is who your parents are and who white people usually socialize with; its is [for lack of a better word] abnormal and the opposite for black people (with some exceptions i.e. while at work or school). Generally speaking, white rarely experience being a minority, and when they do, it is generally a choice. As for black people, we are almost always a minority and we have little choice in the matter. We only [temperarely] stop being a minority when we hold our "own" events, such as a Miss Black America Pagent.
We hold our own events because that is one of the few times, if not only time we can choice not to be a minority. As a result, we have an event which is an acureate depiction of our daily social lives, due to the fact that our in our schools and our churches (etc.) we are surrounded by people who are the same race as us.
In most pagents ratio of black contestants to winners is marginal, but when is the event is comprised of all black contestants the odds of a black person winning is 100% as opposed to 2%[for example]. This is important to a race who has had more to overcome than most other races.
White people dont really have to have their own pagent [Miss White America] because the representations of white contestants is about 90% in the first place.
And really, does any white person really feel slighted because they can't be in a Miss Black America Pagent.

There was a post yesterday about football both head coaches of the teams that are going to the super bowl are black. Its a big deal, or is it.
Yes you are right, if there was a white college there would be riots. But I looked yesterday and there are numerous Black colleges! Why the double standard, because its pay back time in the eyes of blacks. And that is WRONG. All that is doing is making the whites hate blacks and then the blacks hate the whites for calling them on it
. For me I hate it being unfair, when the blacks were put down I was all for them lifting themselves up, and help as needed. Change laws to make if fair, but the laws have gone the other way, and now its wrong again. I don't know how to change it, but do my part, teach my kids to be fair, and look and see the inequity's of life.

Why don't u try to make a "Miss WHITE America pageant", instead of complaining?
It's not racist because any one can run for Miss America, if only the Miss Black America Pageants existed then it would be racist.

Do you know how many times this question has been asked? A whole damn lot! I'm tired of hearing about the crap, to be quite honest and why you choose to ponder over a freakin pageant is beyond me. So what, are you a bigot now? Did you not pick up any history books during your schooling because I know you're not about to act like you don't know WHY these things were put in place????? Please don't get selective amnesia...America is one the most prejudiced countries in the world. That should be the issue you're pondering instead of Miss Black America. And the definition of racist is thinking one race is better than others. Scholarships offered to minorities does not prove that they think blacks are better. It's merely there to balance the prejudice in our country that is, and has always been, prevalent. When America stops being so damned prejudiced against minorities, then maybe we can talk about getting rid of these things. But as long as there is insurance redlining against minorities and things of the like, please don't whine about institutions that have been put in place to leverage prejudice. WHINE ABOUT PREJUDICE!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S THE REAL ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blacks weren't allowed in pageants in the old days. It makes sense that they started their own pageant. I don't see the harm in it. You can have a Miss White American Pageant, no one is stopping you. There is also A miss Hispanic pageant and a Miss Asian Pageant. Why are you not complaining about those?

LOL, I do understand what you mean. It's a double standard that will be around forever. If we tried to take them away saying they are racist towards white people.....they would claim that they are being oppressed. If we held a Miss White America pageant, they would claim racism. It's a horrible thing.
Oh well, I guess that why I just don't pay attention to it anymore. No sense in getting all worked up over something that isn't gonna change.

because Affirmative Action is the most racist creation in modern history. I don't get it.... I have plenty of freinds from all colors of the rainbow, and not one of them where ever a slave, I don't have a cotton feild.....Some Minorities are cry babies, and can't just let it go. And I know that they still have very legitamate reason's to be angry, I know racsism still exists, But if you want to be treated as an equal, don't expect special privledges. It would be like a female on a American Football team, complaining that she is getting tackled to hard.......Tough Sh*t that's the way the game is played, if you want to play it, deal with it.

I'm sure that the initial idea was to bring up people who were honestly held back at one time. In my honest opinion, I think that the playing field is "level" and it's time to think of everyone as equal.
But yes, lots of people who FREAK OUT if there was a "Miss White America".

Because historically black people have been excluded for such honors and there are still fragments of such discrimination today that make it neccessary to make special pagents and awards for black people. Think of it this way, 300 years ago blacks were property of whites. Only fifty years ago, blacks were not allowed into certain restaurants and sat in the back of the bus. It is naive to think that centuries of disrimination can end. It will take centuries to truly be free from the scars of racism in this country. Until then, we need programs and scholaships that will help encourage such a historically repressed and abused people.

They still have Ms. Black USA???
There was a time when it was needed. Black people would not have gone to college without black college funds.
Why the double standard??? Because blacks were killed for trying to vote, children were harassed for trying to go to school, churches were bombed, blacks were lynched, we couldn't live where we wanted, we couldn't eat where we wanted, we couldn't go to certain section of towns. Why THAT double standard????
Things have really begun to move in the last 10 years yet slavery ended over 150 years ago...WHY?????
Also, the American ***** College Fund gives money to whites, asians, blacks, latinos, any American in need...they just haven't changed the name.
