I have a HORRIBLE pain in my hand. It goes from my wrist to between my thumb and index finger. It's constant. I cant even do simple things like open a jar of peanut butter. It started a few years ago but it would be a random thing that would happen maybe a day or two every maybe 6 months. But now for the past month it's been constant and today has been the worst. Could I have carpel tunnel or somthing else? I read about it but it doesnt seem like what I have. I kept reading about a tingle feeling and I dont have that. I'm considering going to the doctor, which I really do not feel like doing but it's getting horrible. Can I just go to a regular doctor or like a nerve doctor? I don't know if thats exactly what the problem is. Thanks!

Sorry for the choppy sentences, it's very not me but it hurts to just type this.

Carpal tunnel syndrome could be a possible cause, but it tends to cause numbness in the fingers (although pain is also an often reprted sympton). More likely, I would guess at something like a neuroma, which can cause extrememe pain similar to what ou describe. Have a doctor check it out -- one with some training in assessing soft tissue disorders would be preferable, but any Doctor should be able to give you a preliminary assessment.

Phalen's Test for carpal tunnel syndrome: Place the tops of your hands together with the palms facing out, the fingers pointing down, and the thumbs close to the chest. Let your elbow relax down as far as they'll go comfortablty. In about a minute (if not much sooner) your thumb, pointer finger and middle finger should get numb. If not, or if painful, this most likely indicates something else as the root cause.

It sound more like you have injured your hand somehow. Carpal tunnel starts when the tendons that go through the heel of your hand swell up andstart to pinch off the nerves, that is why you hear about the tingling. It starts as a pain then gets to where you feel an electric shock going up your whole arm.
See your doctor and describe exactly what your problem is

Yes go see a reg. doctor and tell him your hand problem. I had carpel tunnel for three years. The pain in my hands , elbows, and arms was so bad I would cry from the pain. My hubby finally took me to a doctor and he gave me medication and I wore braces on both hands, they wanted to do surgery but I said no, boy am I every glad I didn't have the operation.
Finally one day my daughter suggested I go see her Chiropractor and I did, one month later I took off the braces and got rid of the medicines. He was a god sent to me. It has been 15 years now and I have no problem except arthritis in my fingers now [ age will go this to you]
Good Luck .

Yep, sounds like carpel tunnel to me. I had it in both of my hands. The surgery to correct went so well I made appoint for my other hand before the first one was healed. I had this done like 3 - 4 years ago. No problems since then.
