If a century=100 years

then arnt we still in the 20th century

100 x 20=2000

So why do people say were in the 21st century?

100 x 21=2100

We're in 2007, not 2107

So again, why do people say were in the 21st century?

Because when we started at year 0, it was the first recorded century - the first century. And when we hit year 100, we started the second century, and so on.

The first century was from 1 to 100 AD. There was no zero century.

You have to remember we started counting the years at 1 and not 100. You left out the first century.

The ladies got it right, no need to elaborate.

Same reason why 2001 was the first year of the 21st century (not 2000, there was no year "zero" so the century starts on the '1'.). Just as it was also the first year of the third millennium.

Second century: 101 to 200 AD
Third century: 201 to 300 AD

because you start counting with one- we didn't have a 0 century.
