What makes a good friend?

Someone that will stand by you through thick and thin. They'll support you through the hard times and laugh with you through the good times. They are considerate - helpful - loyal and honest with you - even if that means insulting you when you ask if my bum looks big in this!!!
A good friend will never automatically put themselves first - but consider you also.
They will help you through bad times/give advice/know when you're down before you even have to ask.

Well, to some, it would mean 'having fame' and 'fortune,' though not necessarily in that order.

A 'good Friend' ...I've had two in my life, 1 male and 1 female. And I'd really like to think that I was as good a Friend to them both as they were for me.

It's having a sense of freedom, to not be judged, its about acceptance, its a willingness to listen to each and even indulge each other. You can use your Friend ~ as long as it doesn't slip into 'abusing' him / her.

It helps if you share mutual interests, but not necessarily so.

Friends, although may indulge each other, are also free to point out when each other are being foolish or behaving in ways which are likely to cause problems ~ and the point of view is respected.

The best definition of 'A Friend' I've come across went ~

'A Friend is someone who you can make a fool of yourself in front of, and know that you have not made a perfect job of it.'

A good friend is a person who has your interest and only yours at heart. A good friend is someone who would inconvenience themselves to make sure that you're convenienced. A good friend is someone if you have kids who would leave their home which is 2hrs plus from your own to go pick up your kids from school and nursery and the childminders bring them home to you, cook dinner and so forth just to ensure that you have had enough rest in order for you to be of full strength for your night duty. A good friend is someone who would sit with you in the hospital waiting room from 11pm at night to 5am or whatever the time maybe because you're little girl had an asthma attack and they still have to go to work with no sleep. A good friend is someone who would cry with you, laugh with you, smile with you and when your just plain crazy and psycho whichever it may be tell you straight up. A good friend is someone who would risk loosing you to make you understand that they love you and do not want you to see you hurt. A good friend is someone who would trade all their riches in the world to secure your happiness.

A good friend -- to me -- is one that doesn't need constant reassurance that we are friends. I can go weeks or months at a time without talking to someone, and when we do get together it is like no time has passed at all. If there is any resentment or animosity I almost always drop the friendship. However, if one of my friends needs me, they only have to ask me and I will be there for them. If I see that they need something, they don't even need to ask, it will be given to them. These are the qualities I look for in potential friends.

I'm very selective about the friends I make. Firstly they have to allow you to be yourself. I remember a time when I was living up to peoples expectations. Secondly, they should be there for you, but remember to do the same! Thirdly you should have something in common with them. I've had friends telling me that they are my best friend yet when it comes to talking to each other we have nothing to talk about!Lastly, are they loyal? Often times you'd get friends who ditch you to hand out with one or a group of people. Try and look for signs, before you are left on the high way.
