I went to the local Ace Hardware store the other day to buy a flood lightbulb. There was one from them and the same voltage from GE for a $1 more. GE spends billions a year on advertising and it costs them more to be in business and thus have to charge more.

The same is true every New Year when prices go up because companies get price increases from their suppliers.

Why then is forcing an increase of the minimum wage not understood as an automatic price increase for goods and services? Since wages are a big part of the costs of doing business, why would this be any different?

When you increase the cost of doing business, the businesses must pass that cost on to the consumers.

Right ON! ACE. The Politicians in this country have never
figured that, one out! Raise taxes on business, make them pay higher wages, regulate them to death, add health insurance to their expenses, and what happens... You are right, they either
raise their prices or go out of business! Politicians are only
buying votes. One of the Founding Fathers said, this will
work, until the people find that they can vote themselves
benefits out of the National Treasury! It ain't rocket science!

u are right. However, the prices go up regardless. Its called inflation. Have you ever tried to live and raise kids on $5.15 and hour? Maybe u should try it before you knock it. And besides, this town i am in, a college education isnt going to do you a whole lotta good. The max pay around here is $15 an hour, with or without an education. I would say 80% of jobs here pay less than $8 an hour. Also, illegal immigration causes prices to rise as well.

And the comment about ppl living on min wage being young or elderly... NOT TRUE. bubble bursting it rough, but someone has to do it. And even at 7 bucks an hour, you are still in poverty. Its called the Working Poor. Look it up if u dont know what that means. Or ask just about any average person on the street.

Chainsaw what does being liberal have to do with this question? Really? I'm more liberal on a lot of issues than most folks you picture with your hate mongering label.

I own a business, served as President of the local Chamber of Commerce ( do you know what they do?) & have three fulltime employees. Also happened to vote for Bush in 04'.

You must think awwww cmon he's a conservative , Republican.
Wrong using the pictures stuck in your mind. I AM conservative on some issues, so conservative it would scare you!! And I happen to be a registered Denocrat because labels are required for all.

I oppose the minimum wage being dictated by the govt, should be a free market issue.

So what label do I get? A liberal Democrat opposing min wage & supprting business in my community w chamber of commerce commitment.

I believe some drugs & prostitution should be legalized. I also think we hand out far too much welfare related funds and favor norplant being mandated if a woman choses to have additional children (her right) while on my payroll (public assistance)

I'm pro choice but NOT pro abortion and do believe it must be limited to early 2nd term (have I lost you?

When can I get MY label? as i presume at least one of my views scares you enough to have to taunt and ridicule my views.

Or is it possible someone can be a patriot and still disagree w you on some things??

Cmon quit doing YOUR part to make having a conservative opinion look as weak, stupid .lazy, whatever as you claim liberal looks. Accept that not every American is exactly like YOU, & that sometimes compromise is not just reasonable but unavoidable.

Love ya, just trying to help ease your pain.

What if, and this just may very well be the case, that only 5% of the cost of that lightbulb was labor cost. And only 20% of that cost was minimum wage people. So, if you raise the minimum wage by 20%, that's a mere 1/5 of 1% of the cost of the light bulb, or 0.2%.

I'd be happy to pay a little more for products such that the lowest rung on our ladder has a fighting chance at survival.

Why would'nt retailers, and suppliers obfuscate reasons for raising prices? They rely on uninformed people like you, the suckers. You actually believe the reasons they give for raising prices. Just because they SAY the price increase is due to labor costs, does'nt mean that it actually IS. What if, the real reason for the price increase is, just because they are greedy bastards, and would raise prices anyway? What's wrong with buying a lightbulb from them, at a dollar less?

Prices and taxes will rise, these are like constants in the Universe. Prices drop when it is politically helpful to a candidates party, but they always go back up. Name me one item that the price has dropped in America and remained for 2 years. Kinda hard to do.

Liberals believe people actually making a life of living on minimum wage as they want to keep everyone on a lower scale so the govt can have more control. Most who earn minimum wage are either high school students still living with mom and dad, college students trying to earn some spending money or elderly trying suppliment their limited income.I have not worked a minimum wage job for 28 years.

Illegal immigration and outsourcing has lowered domestic wages from living wages to poverty wages over the last 20 years. Have you noticed a drop in prices? I haven't.

GE makes junk. unions can add to cost, labor itself doesn't add that much,it is an excuse companies use. management adds more to the cost and do little to make the product.
