In the U.S. it's not uncommon for pro sports franchises to move from one city to another. However they usually keep the nickname, sometimes with laughable results. What do you think is the most inappropriate, out-of-place nickname? Here are a few that make no sense:

Arizona Cardinals (cardinals in the desert?)
Indianapolis Colts (baltimore makes sense. indiana? no)
Utah Jazz (moved from New Orleans, kept the name)
Memphis Grizzlies (moved from Vancouver; never been a grizzly anywhere near Tennessee)
Los Angeles Lakers (moved from Minnesota - lakes in SoCal?)

What are the L.A. Dodgers dodging? Surely not the famous trolley cars of old Brooklyn.

The New Orleans Hornets name was more appropriate in its original Charlotte setting (the hornet's nest being a symbol of the city of Charlotte).

With Utah playing alongside the Great Salt Lake, and L.A. having some distinction as a musical city, I suggest the Jazz and the Lakers swap names.

The one that quickly comes to mind is the Los Angeles Lakers. Where in the world is there a lake in the LA area? They only called them that because they moved there from Minnesota and were too lazy to change the name!!!
