I want a social and politican history based more in the north of England to try to add background information to the family history I have traced.

The Geocities site concentrates on the colonies and I specifically asked about northern England which also rules out the diaries (which I have already read) as they are very specific to the soulth of England and London.

There is a book on the other site mentioned which looked useful at first glance but is little more than a schoolboy potted history. I am looking foir hard facts and figures with full academic backup! More "A" level than 1st grade - sorry if this wasn't clear before.

Try K.O.Morgan ed, The Oxford Popular History of Britain, chs. 7 and 8 are on your period. At the end of the
book is a bibliography for each chapter, so you can follow up themes that particularly interest you.
good luck.
