I am leveling a new Dranei mage. Are there any attacks mages can do while moving? I am used to kiting with my huntress, and would like to use the same techniques with my new squishie mage. I've heard mages can kite- but was hoping there was more to it than Frost Nova and Polymorph, rinse, repeat. (mage is level 12 now).
Also, some recommendations for websites with all things godly for WoW mages would be appreciated. I use TKASomething.com for my huntress, hoping for something similar for the mage. And please- NOT the WoW Community forums- they make my eyes and soul hurt.
Tx.

My friend what you want to do is called AoE grinding...you want to spec you mage to get Blastwave(fire tree) and Presence of mind(arcane tree). the trick is the find melee mobs that are about 2-3 lvls below you then gather them up into a pile and AoE them.

steps:
1. pull mobs(no more then 6 mobs) to you.
2. Frost nova
3. (I forget the name of the spell) its the one that casts an AoE Fire attack the does initial dmg + a dot effect on the area it was cast upon.
4. cone of cold
5. blink away
6. pop presence of mind and cast the spell for #3.
7. Blast wave
8. Arcane explosion til they are dead

best places for AoE grinding...the cove with Pirates in Gadgetzan, the lions in Hillsbrad foothills, the yetis north of Hillsbrad, Yetis in feralas, naga cave south of feathermoon. I took a mage to 60 in 7days doin this.

Tips for when you hit mid 50s...spec frost...you can AoE grind elites with ease then...I dont suggest this til at least 50, b/c it is tough to get all the talents you need to do it properly. Neways when you do this go to the Western Plaguelands and go to the Scarlet Crusade area in the north of this area and AoE those mobs...good xp.

I have a 46 Pure Fire Mage

Fire Blast is very nice!
Pyroblast is a LONG cast.

Being a mage is all about combos.

I usually get in range for a Pyroblast, once it hits, I cast a fireball, once its hits, fire blast, by the time the mob is near you. This is when you frost nova them in place.

Take about 5 steps back, repeat above.

Also nice when finishing them off is Blast Wave and Cone of Cold..

Like I said, the Mage is all about the combo.

Once you have capped* your intellect and spell power {in that order} , then I would head into Hit, crit and haste. Hit is pretty important, especially when you are 85 and raiding. In fact, hit is probably the first thing you want to cap once you are 85 {I believe the cap for spell hit is 17%..}. There are lots of forums and 'how to's' on google! Give them a read and find what suits you and your mage best. ADDED: You do NOT need spirit... I disagree with the girl above me... Spirit is a useless stat for the moment, only really utilized by priests, and then only the healing ones... *Cap means you have successfully hit the amount of intellect/spell power/etc needed for your level.

Any of your instant cast spells can be used while moving. (I don't play a high level mage, but I play warlock, and my bf plays mage, I would look at his character, but it's maintenance day :( )
I know the kiting can be done effecitvely by mages, Arcane Explosion is good for it, but you have to be careful with AoE radius.

frost nova polymorph doesn't accomplish much less your trying to escape

Fire Blast is an instant that can be cast while moving.

I went pure ice while levelling, makes things easier to kite when they are slowed down considerably.

You're most likely stuck with your current situation. I suggest allakhazam (sp?, google it) for a good WoW site.
