I have a 1998 dodge dakota, and this morning, while driving, it started to shake once i got it into fifth gear. When i let off the gas it stops, but then when i put on the gas it gets terrible. It feels like a balance problem, but it doesnt happen when im not accelerating. The shake is in the whole vehicle, and the stick shakes and moves... Its winter out, could it be ice? Any help would be appreciated, and thanks.

Not likely it's ice on the road, nor is it likely it's just cold and shaking because of that. Nor is it likely you are scaring it the way you're driving...so, what could it be?

We do have some clues, only under load, while accelerating, and pretty violent. If it was at one speed, or continuous, I'd think there might be ice on the drive shaft, but that would eventually go away and it would clear up.

I'd suggest you get it in to the mechanic, and up on the rack. I'd bet you have a universal joint problem. Drive slowly to get there because if it fails and the drive shaft drops out, now you have BIG problems. It could also be other things, transmission mounts, axle problem, but once up on the lift it should become obvious.

If this shaking just started because of the cold weather, you may have gotten some bad gas. You could also need a tune up. A quick check is to get some dry gas and/or fuel injection cleaner. Next (even if the price is high) get at least 3/4 tank of HIGH TEST
gas. If it is fuel related you should notice a change within 50 miles. Also you may want to open the hood at night with the motor running. Sometimes if moisture rests on plug wires and the wires are getting old, you may get cross firing. If you see what looks like lightning around the wires, you have arching. A quick TEMPORARY fix is to spray WD40 all over the wires. This displaces moisture and insulates the wires for a short time.
If the problem started slow and continued to get worse, just take it to a reputable repair shop and ask them to check the drive line. If they are nice they may not charge you. At the very least, you will get your truck thawed out by sitting in the shop.

The motorcar weight is sitting on your guidance linkage once you "shake the tire" it ability no longer something. apparently the adult adult males doing the alignment are purely interested in placing the toe and letting you bypass. There are something that really want to be rechecked, are your the front wheels round and the tires in good structure? Is the balanced weight below a million.50 oz..in step with tire. Have a guidance stabilizer? Are your ball joints tight? 55mph typically signifies that centrifical stress is convey something out linked with both tires and or your wheels

It could be ice that has built up on the drive shaft. Look under the truck at the drive shaft and remove any icy buildup.

Sounds like you need a front end alignment or the tires rotated and balanced.

By your description, It appears that is related to the driveshaft.

either a worn U-joint, or a worn driveshaft mount. A simple undercarriage inspection will give you the answer.

You have a bad u-joint or other driveline problem. These often show up as imbalances at highway speeds. Have it checked by a mechanic.
