I am assuming you mean that you are LOSING transmission fluid.
Some automatic transmissions have a part called a vacuum modulator on the side of the trans. If this leaks internally the fluid will get sucked into the intake and burned by the engine.

The other answers are correct. I would ask you: are you sure you consistently check the transmission oil level either cold or hot? The fluid level changes remarkably from just starting in cold weather to warmed up.

A auto Tran that has no leaks and looses oil is done only one way Thur the shift modulator, it is operated by engine vacuum and if the diaphragm is broken the vacuum from the Eng. sucks the Tran. oil out.
it's a easy fix and cheap you can do it yourself.
go to the parts store and ask them for a modulator for your car and put it on it usually mounts to the Tran with a small vacuum hose going to it. good luck

older automatic transmissions can loose fluid to the engine thru the vacuum modulator, the engine basically burns it

May be a leak between the transmission and the block, have it checked out before it is damaged beyond repair.

well, if the fluid hasnt been changed in a while, and its way overdue for that service, the fluid breaks down and begins to burn off. it also depends on what type of vehicle, what kind of drive system setup it has. if its rear wheel drive, it maybe a slight leak at the rear pinion seal, not at just at the pan gasket, for example
