The guests get the prizes. I hosted one for my sister and we had loads of games, and it was a lot of fun. I got some inexpensive yet nice little trinkets... like vases from the dollar store (they were actually quite nice) and we had clothes pegs that were painted and decorated. and each person got one. The house rules were that NO ONE was allowed to say "baby" if you were caught saying baby, you'd have your clothes peg taken away. It was HILARIOUS how people were speaking about my sister's babies (she had triplets) But there are many sites online that give good games.
But back to your question, Mommy gets gifts and guests get prizes. However, in our case, mommy ended up getting one prize... it was just surplus though.

I've never even heard of the mother to be getting all the prizes. The winner should get the prize. While the focus of the day is on the mother to be, it's a social event for all the guests too. The guests bring presents for the new mum so that should be enough. Make the prizes expensive chocolates or something like that that's good for everyone whether they've got kids or not.

The ones I have attended the guest is awarded the prize, but she generally donates to the mom.

Ah good question,my friends Mother is holding a baby shower for my best friend in March, me and another friend are in charge of the games, the soon to be grandma told us to send her the bill of the prizes but we will pick up the tab....she has other things to worry about ie..food,decoration...but certainly not will we be asking the Mother to be to fork in any costs....she is the guest of honour.
