how do i search for other users in the system?

Windows XP: Control Panel --> User Accounts
Windows 2000: Control Panel ---> Users and Password.
Linux/Unix ---> cat /etc/passwd

Go to task manager, or use Ctrl + Alt + Del combination on your keyboard then see User, active user will shown there.
