If you want to be a vet, you're basically looking at 4 years of college and 4 of vet school. After that, you'll probably need a couple years to specialize in exotic animal medicine.

I am a zoologist. i went to university and gained a PhD. I have worked with primates and big cats, both in captivity and in the wild. However, it all depends on what u want to do. If u want to be a zoo keeper u do not need a PhD, or even a BSc. When i first started out before my qualifications, i volunteered in the local zoo as a volunteer zoo keeper for one day a week. This led to a full time job working with captive gorillas. If u want to do any sort of research or scientific work out in the field, u will need at least an MSc in the disipline, for a lot of the research is based on knowledge, statistical analysis and quantitative methods. I would recommend u first look into all different options and what is avaliable to actually do, then take it from there. Contact your local Zoo and see if they take on voluntary zoo keepers (they do in the UK, not sure about anywhere else). Good luck, it is a tough field to break into. They are looking for serious people to work in this area, so don't say anything like "I love fluffy animals and want to cuddle them" as u won't be taken seriously.

If you want to be a zoo vet, you need to 1st earn a Bachelor degree then go onto vet school, then specialize in exotics. Being a zoo vet is highly competative, usually only one vet per zoo, so only the best of the best will get those jobs. Here in the US if you want to be a zookeeper, you will need to earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a zoology major. Almost all the zoos nowadays will not higher a keeper without a degree. Check out your local zoo for volunteer programs to get some hands on experience and see if you really like the job. Check out this website to see job postings and what sort of experience they are asking for to give you an idea of what education you will need to persue.

Find out if there are any zoos near you and see if they are hiring. It doesn't matter what the job is, but the experience is great. You should also look into biology, chemistry, and math classes. Good luck!

i believe you could get noticed if you try hard enough, even though it sounds a little cliche just stick to your dream and do what you love to do.
