It just reinforces my belief that marriage is a bust.

The same reason anyone divorces. They don't want to be together anymore. Maybe the only reason they've been together this long, is because of the ramnifications the publicity of divorce would have had on the company. The company is stable now.

Life is short and there is no second chance. Maybe he just wasn't happy and decided to take one last stab at finding true love. Maybe there was something going on that we don't know about.
