This comes up when we try to connect our laptop wirelessly. Can anyone explain please?

Sounds like you have some other computers using that router. Try turning the computers off, then turn off the router for 5 seconds, turn the router back on. Then turn the computer back on. As long all computers are obtaining the ip automatically, that should clear up the issue.

NO, not without some more information. Simply stated, you need a router attached to your modem in order to create a network. the router assigns unique IPs to both computers so this conflict doesn't happen.

So what kind of setup do you have?
