what does magnesium oxide and water make... IN A FORMULA PLEASE. and please explain why.

OK! metal oxides and water will react as the metal hydroxides.
so if M is metal of II A the form is the
MO + H2O----> M(OH)2
Because OH^- oxidation number is -1 and metal of IIA is +2

Metal oxides will react with water to form a hydroxide. So in an equation:

MgO + H2O --> Mg(OH)2
