I'm European and your question doesn't even make sense. Why would anyone think Americans are poor Europeans?? America is much richer than say Latvia or the Czech Republic.

I heard that a lot of Europeans migrate in America during the early times, maybe its the reason why they called those people "poor".

I've never heard it myself. I've heard, though, that there are more Americans living in extreme poverty than there are in most European countries. Just because the country's richer, does not mean the people are. People die of hunger in America and Britain every day. They just get forgotten by rich governments. We hear every day about hunger and poverty in Africa, but it's as much an issue here.

thats funny you say that seeing that the USA is a super power and incredibly rich. I dont think that wealth came from making jeans. Our living standards is higher than most countries in the world. including Europe. only the british can make that assumption probably

Because early in our history (American) it was the poorer people of Europe who left their homeland to come to America in hopes of a better life. The rich people of Europe had no reason to emigrate.

never heard it, but it probably stems from the fact that most of the U.S. population is composed of descendants of european immigrants. most of these immigrants were poor and struggling in their respective homelands when they migrated. but then, 95 percent of all europeans were poor back in the day, so it was probably representative of the general population.
