Let me add that this morning on the news I saw that they are trying to stop a city from doing something about the illegal immigrants there. How does that make you feel?

The worst thing going for America right now.

They support NAMBLA, an organization for homosexual pedophiles.

They support Affirmative Action, which is the only thing keeping us from a colorblind society.

They "support" only the constitutional rights that they want to support. For instance, they STRONGLY "support" the first amendment, but not the second amendment, simply because they do not agree with it.

They support the rights of companies to send SPAM and junk mail, but not our right to not GET SPAM and junk mail.

The ACLU is a basic part of our government system even though they are not part of the government. It is the catalyst for getting some of the checks and balances to work. Over the past few decades, the ACLU has helped knock down many different laws that violated the rights of the citizens. Laws regarding race, sex, freedom of speech, religion, police searches, and other areas regarding out rights have been passed that violate the constitution. The ACLU steps in to point out the violation and get the system to correct itself.

Some will say the ACLU is meddling and should mind its own business. However, the ACLU only goes where the constitution has be trampled upon. When they act, they are defending rights. Some also attack the ACLU because those people supported the laws that violated rights. This happens often in matters regarding religion and criminal rights.

Others hate the ACLU because they think that they are trying to ban all religion or take Christmas away. The ACLU has never supported a law that banned saying "Merry Christmas". They have not sued stores or private homes over Christmas displays. In fact, they have gone to court to protect the rights of stores and homes with Christmas displays. They have gone to court to separate religion from government. At no time should the government of the people be promoting a religion. Religion cannot be ruled by democratic vote and vice versa. I support the ACLU because it protects the rights of people.

The main problem with the ACLU is that they have no consistency (due in part that they have no foundation or morality). With nothing to stand on, they stand behind anyone who pays them a lot of money to make a big stir about something.

They're not about protecting the constitution or peoples' rights. They're about getting money and causing strife.

In theory it sounds great that their is an organization looking out for individual rights. But the things the tend to pursue have a tendency to destroy American culture while giving a minority their right. An example was a high school that used to say a prayer before football games for decades. ACLU made them stop. The ten commandments have been in many court houses for hundreds of years. But the ACLU is getting them taken out.

I don't always like the causes they pursue, but sometimes I do. I think a watchdog organization is critical to the success of democracy. I don't always want to like positions taken by conservative organizations like the Cato Institute, but have to agree with the logic.

I think that rather than relying on your emotions on a particular topic you look to the governing laws and base your decisions on those. If you don't like it, work to change the laws or move to another country.

Rather than being anti-American, they are very pro-American. Those most vulnerable to being trampled by the majority are those most in need of protection, and that's enshrined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

i don't agree with everything they do,it would be unreasonable to believe any organization or government would ever do anything any person would agree with 100%. they defend even those that claim to hate them. christians, republicans, those tha favor free speech and us here on the internet . those are just some they have helped and are continuing to.

edit. as for the second amendment, they are not against it and believe laws to who can own which guns are reasonable. who favors a felon owning a firearm? who favors a person owning full auto without permit/license?

It won't we long before the ACLU says it's a Muslim radical's right to fly planes into buildings and kill thousands of innocent people in the United States.

They are what is wrong with America. They want to take America away from the Americans and give it to the un-Americans.

Probably the most all-American organization out there.

They don't support NAMBLA, and there is no war on xmas. In fact, ACLU branches have xmas parties.

the ACLU, Rainbow/Push coalition, A.N.S.W.E.R, People for the American Way, NOW, PETA, GLAAD, NAACP, and many other "alphabet" groups are a pack of wolves disguised as sheep.

all of them are hardcore anti american leftist groups who hide behind good causes. their true intentions are to rob us of our freedom and turn us into a class of obedient wage slaves while they, the ruling class, consume all the power and wealth.

they defend all things that are harmful to the american society. that's why they defend illegal immigration.
