I just had some nut job say that if I disapproved of gay lifestyle because of my own moral convictions, then I was discriminating against them religiously. So in effect, they can believe what they want but I can't. If this is the case then, isn't him telling me that I cannot belief that homosexuality is an immoral behavior Religous discrimination? I can't believe people let them get away with these unsound illogical arguments!

You have a valid argument Brodie, & some gays use illogical , hostile assertions the same as any other person might do you gay or not.

Folks w views that conflict w yours who flaunt them or claim you're persecuting them aren't limited to or a personality characteristic of gays.

I'm not gay, but have a close relative who is, & have met several others in my role as an insurance agent.

My expectation/hope is that there is room for many lifestyles to co exist peacefully as long as your moral convictions aren't deliberately disrespected by whatever behavior is immoral to you.

If a couple of any lifestyle is keeping their intimate moments private as our society "expects" no problem.

Tolerance isn't that simple though....some have a cause or need to show they are superior.

You believe homosexuality is immoral & that shouldn't be an issue as long as you're not doing something publicly to demean their belief. You don't have to be made to believe you are wrong or must change either.

A similar, but admittedly different conflict I was witness to. An older white gentleman w a background many would call country cracker or sout hern bigot based on his physical appearance.I've been w this man & seen him interact w blacks whites, hispanics w equal acceptance & no variation.

Recently his daughter has fallen in love w a hispanic gentleman. He expressed his conviction that he felt it immoral for his daughter to marry this man & have a child of mixed race.

Had no problems w the boyfriend, acknowledged its become somewhat "outdated" thinking, but said his beliefs made it immoral. Others dismissed his beliefs as racist period w no defense. Is he a racist? My answer isn't right necessarily, but I know the man isn't just a racist & his beliefs are wrong period.

Hang in there & don't let him or anyone provoke you.

There is a Bill coursing its way through Congress as we speak HR Bill254 that is being sponsored by the ADL, ACLU and Rep Sheila Jackson-Lee a Democrat from Texas. This Bill is almost an exact duplicate of those already being enforced in the EU nations including Canada that criminalizes any percieved Hate Speech in private or in the pulpits of America in clear Violation of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I was kicked out of a private "christian college" for writing my views on the subject that was supposed to be private between student and instructor! Let the games begin! I was also terminated from employment for reading religious material on my own time too. So much for Tolerance! It is extended to everybody except legitimate Americans who just happen to be people of color, women and Christians .

People can't be sins, but actions can. If you believe that expressions of sexual lust outside of marital commitment- existing for the purpose of procreation- (be it homosexuality, fornication, etc) are self-serving and against the will of God, this is not discrimination against anyone. But if you lack moral consistency in this area, then there may be a hidden element of discrimination present. Always remember everyone is a child of God.

Both attitudes are, strictly speaking, discrimination. You don't say if your moral convictions are based on religion or just your own sense of what is right and wrong. You also don't say if either of you have taken action, or simply judged the other. Let's assume it is purely a conversation rather than doing something. So we'll call it "judging" and avoid that nasty, meaning-laden term discrimination. The person with whom you are arguing is incorrect - you are judging based on sexual orientation. He is judging based on your moral convictions.

One common response to folks who oppose homosexuality on the grounds of religious teaching is to look at other Biblical dictates for the sake of consistency. It can be pretty funny. I found this at http://www.wordwiz72.com/bible.html:
" ...Don't go around using Leviticus to condemn homosexuals if you don't follow all of its commandments with equal enthusiasm. How strictly do YOU follow all the requirements in Leviticus?

Lev chapter 11 enumerates permissible and forbidden foods. Permitted are cloven-hooved cud-chewing animals such as cows and lambs (v.3); forbidden are cloven-hooved non-cud-chewing animals (camels, etc.); additional animals prohibited as meat include rabbits (v.6), PORK (v.7). Verses 8-9 specify that fish with fins and scales are permitted, but all other seafood (specifies both seas and rivers) is an ABOMINATION. So I hope none of you Bible-lovers are too fond of shrimp, crab, lobsters, oysters, etc., are feeling too cramped by the LAW. Actually, I recommend the whole 11th chapter of Leviticus to anyone who takes the Bible too literally. ... Exodus 35:2 clearly states that those who work on the Sabbath should be put to death. Do Bible believers feel they are morally obligated to personally kill those with jobs on Sunday (or Saturday, depending on how literally one interprets the meaning of "Sabbath" as applied in modern times)?

Lev. chapter 21, verses 17-24, makes it very clear that those with a variety of disabilities are not welcome to approach the altar of God. Will Bible believers initiate a campaign to overturn the wicked Americans with Disabilities Act? Verse 20 specifically mentions any defect or "blemish" in one's vision. I have to admit that I wear prescription glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?"

I do not think that the majority of the gay community wants to infringe on your way of believing or thinking. It seems like the person you had that conversation with is as radical and unaccepting of other people views as you are.

What people do behind their closed bedroom doors is nobody business, even if we disagree with them.

Nobody should judge anybody else in this area. It is up go God. But I am not God, and neither are you.

Sounds like you both fell into the gutter for this little squabble. Kinda like trying to reason with animal activists, they keep twisting and twisting.

Next time, keep your eye on the ball and don't be fooled by the smoke and mirrors.

Why don't you keep your opinions to yourself, and you can expect them to also. When you make a statement about your beliefs, you can expect to be challenged on those beliefs, especially in an anonymous forum such as this. Have you ever read the garbage on the politics section?

Here's a good question. Why do you ask questions when you're really only seeking out one answer. One that supports you views.
Do yourself a favor. Start listening instead of preaching.

As long as u r a good person who the hell cares what others think? Ur main concern should be pleasing God not people. 'Live and let live', should be all men's model.
