Garment sizes were established in the 1950's after an extensive body measurement survey. Based on these measurements "standard" sizes were developed. Retailers have the choice which sizes they offer their customers and also how they interpret these "standard" measurements. Thus you will find that some brands fit you better than others.
Also, the average body shape has changed drastically from the 50's to now. Just think Marilyn Monroe curves vs Kate Moss skinny.
If a retailer does not stock a certain size (such as 13) it is because there are few people that are a 13, and thus it is not economically viable to produce the additional size. This is the same with tall and short people and pant lengths.
I would have said try internet shopping, but jeans need to be fitted :-) I hope you find a store that stocks your size! Good luck!

Size 13s (and other odd sizes) are usually juniors clothing so not really the size you are probably looking for. Juniors tend to run in 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 and so on. If I were in the situation you are describing I would go around and try on jeans at differnt stores. Alot of companies size their pants slightly bigger/smaller than the next brand, so I'm sure you could find something inbetween the 12 and 14 you are trying now. Yes there is a size 13, even a size 12/13 and 13/14. I am having a similar situation. I have found that Levis, which I purchase from walmart at $19.00 a pair, fit great for the in between size people like you and I. They also have a bit of stretch to them like most jeans today. Not too mention they are a good pair of quality jeans. I normally wear jeans all the time too. I bet the size 10 or 12 in Levis from walmart would fit you almost perfect. Try a pair on the next time your in walmart.

No, the sizes don't go to 13. It's only 12 and then 14 and so on. Even numbers I guess. Try on the 14 and wear a belt. I had the same delimma before. I was in-between a size 0 and 1, so I just wore a half-size. That was for jeans. Good luck with your jeans and I hope you find the perfect one!:)

There is a size 13, but good luck finding it - usually it's "13/14" (a 13 is most likely to be found in expensive botiques where fit means everything). This may sound strange, but you might want to start shopping in a different area - a 14 is different not just amongst designers, but often depending on area - in demographically weathier and more urban areas the sizes carried and actual measurements of a 14 is much smaller, its done as an ego thing for customers - insane isn't it?

Size 13 is the Junior version of Misses size 14. It just has a shorter waist. It won't make any difference in your situation.
You might try wearing a pair of slim-cut 14s until you're a good 12. Or, for less than it would cost for a new pair of jeans, you can take your "too big" jeans to a tailor to be taken in until you're down to a solid 12.

You probably just need to try on jeans of both sizes 12 and 14) in various different shops as the sizing will be different. Just keep trying on and you will find something that fits - a great excuse for a shopping trip though!

Don't you just love not being able to find the right size. Different brands size their clothes differently, you just have to find the brands that offer the clothes in odd numbers, ie...1,3,5...not the evens. There are brands at Wal-Mart and JCPenny's. Just keep hunting you'll find them. And remember you're losing weight so eventually you'll be a 12 or an 11. It all depends on the brands.

well i have the same problem wear between size 1-5 its hard to find it in the girls department so you can either look in the guys department or where a belt. jeans are fine you just have have more then one belt...happy hunting

yes, that is a size in the junior dept.
the sizes are odd 0 1- 3-5-7-8-11-13, etc...
