Information on a Computer, PDA, Cellphone, etc... Where does that data that had been present go?

When just deleted the file is still available. Think of it like erasing writing on paper. Even though you erase it you can still make out what it said if you try. Now, write over it. Just like when you place another file on the deleted file (which is what happens when you add programs on your computer) Its very hard to make out what it says...but you might still might get some partial letters and words. The more you write over that spot, the less likely you will be able to retrieve the original.

When you delete a file on a PC, the filename is removed from the directory but the actual contents of the file remain somewhere on the hard drive. A real expert might be able to recover it. As for a PDA or cellphone, without the presence of the capability to save, I imagine it is history.

I guess it just gets wiped clean from the memory card and gone forever.
